The Crus
The farms’ vineyards are divided in three plots of land, each of which is at the origin of a Cru.
CRU “LE BALZE”
Wine appellation: Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva.
Surface: 1.5 ha.
Farming system: guyot.
Hectare plant density: 5000 p/ha.
Soil: clayey-calcareous.
Hectare production: 9000 kg/ha.
Exposition: South.
Gradient: 15%.
Appellation origin: it comes from the particular shape of the vineyard with downgrading steps along the hill slope.
CRU “I CANTONI”
Wine appellation: Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore.
Surface: 1.5 ha.
Farming system: guyoy.
Hectare plant density: 5000 p/ha.
Soil: volcanic interspersed with layers of limestone.
Hectare production: 9000 kg/ha.
Exposition: South-East.
Gradient: 10%.
Appellation origin: it comes from the amphitheatre shape vineyard made of downgrading steps inserted at 90° to one another.
This is an excellent example of low impact environment engineering.
CRU “LE NOVAIE”
Wine appellation: Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG Classico.
Surface: 1.5 ha.
Farming system: pergola.
Hectare plant density: 3300 p/ha.
Soil: marly interspersed with thin layers of clay and limestone.
Hectare production: 9000 kg/ha.
Exposition: South.
Gradient: 10%.
Appellation origin: it has been lost in time but presumably it was born simply from the vicinity with the Novaia road.
